Find a shadier way to walk through Kyoto.
Hikagemichi suggests walking routes with more shade in real time. I built it at a hackathon in Kyoto using PLATEAU’s open 3D city models.
A shadier walk through Kyoto
When you explore Kyoto on foot, even a short walk can feel tiring if it’s in direct sunlight. I wanted to make it easier to find a shaded street, even when it meant taking a small detour.
Finding shade at the time of your walk
The app uses 3D building data and the sun’s position to estimate where buildings cast shadows at a given time. In the supported area north of Kyoto Station, you can compare the shortest walking route with one that prioritizes shade and pick the route that suits you.
